We all know about the Western Digital Velociraptor which was the ultimate symbol of speed. With 600GB hard disk costing up to INR 12,000 it was no surprise this had to be something special. Well now the special pole position is now to be shared with Hitachi's new arrival.

They can be used in server computers as well to increase the surf speed

In layman terms a hard disk is a stack of aluminium platter with magnetic material on the sides onto which the data is encoded. To read and write the data the disks are connected to a central spindle which rotates and the head write the data down. The faster the spindle speed the more quicker the data acquisition. Now with this in mind the usual desktop has a spindle speed of 5400 RPM. A new Seagate barracuda had 7200RPM. However the Velociraptor had a 10000RPM which meant extreme efficiency as read write speed were increased to maximum level possible.


But now that celebrity status is gone with the arrival of Hitachi's Ultrastar C10K600. It comes in 200,450,600 GB storage space and in the new 6GBps speed. Which makes it compatible only to the new motherboards. It has a 15 p.c better random and 18p.c better sequential read write and requires 22p.c lesser power than normal HDD thus increasing competitiveness. 


It comes packaged as 2.5 inch which means they can be installed in Laptops as well. This is good news as this increases the efficiency and reduces the battery consumption of the Laptop.


The price has not yet been officially launched.
